Garlic cloves become garlic bulbs and flavor our veggie creations.
What a great week in the garden family. The weather has cooled, and the heavens have opened up and brought some refreshments for our thirsty garden family. Thank you for returning to week 6 of our seed’s journey. Last week’s story was all about how our seeds, now plants are growing strong with a few cayenne peppers. This week is about the garlic.
Here’s a quick snap of my curious pup; Mom, what’s up?
Okay, right—Why are you here today? Oh, yes, it is our weekly garden update, for the rest of the story simply click the image below.
Welcome to our new subscribers and followers we are thrilled you are curious. Love that you stayed. My passion for garden to table creations, comes from my passion to grow and nurture plants. I believe it’s an incredible experience to watch a seed grow into something delicious to eat! God’s gift.
June 26: We have more peppers showing up. This is a Hungarian Yellow Hot Wax or commonly known as a Hot Banana Pepper. This is a lovely mild to medium tasting pepper. I will pickle soon. Stay tuned for how.
June 27: Garlic harvest. These beauties were planted last fall, mid-October. Each year I select the biggest, healthiest bulbs and reserve them for the fall planting season. Why, the larger the bulb—the bigger your garlic will be the following year.
You take your largest bulbs, separate the cloves and plant in mid-October 2-inches down, and a palm length apart, about 4-inches. Nine months later—you will have beautiful new garlic bulb offsprings. The below bulbs are 5th generations of garlic.
Once you dig up those new bulbs, you can eat now, but I don’t. I cure them, simply it means drying the outer leaves. If you dry properly and store in a cool dark place, you will have homegrown garlic that lasts all year long.
I braided 3 to 5 garlic cloves together, then hung them in our back shed. They will hang there for 4-5 weeks. I forgot to take a picture, but I will, and share in another post.
Curious to learn more? We have been enjoying those pickled garlics scapes, they are delicious.

That's it! You've inspired me to try to grow garlic! I have never grown it before. Can I start it now? Are they like "seed" garlics like potatoes or are they seeds I buy? lol I know nothing about them. Ready to try something new and learn.
I’m going to be anxiously awaiting my garlic harvest. Ours won’t be ready until about September or October and I’m nearly finished last years!
